Pôsobí na: zachovanie celkového zdravia, zdravie čriev, rast svalov a cvičenie
Suplementácia tejto aminokyseliny prospieva telu iba ak chýba v potrave (vegáni, vegetariáni s nízkym príjmom mliečnych výrobkov) alebo počas dlhodobého vytrvalostného tréningu. V ojedinelých prípadoch bolo zaznamenané zníženie chuti na sladké.
Užívanie
Glutamín sa zvyčajne užíva v dávke 5 g a viac. Vyššie dávky môžu spôsobiť výskyt nadmerného množstva amoniaku v krvnom sére. Najnižšia dávka, u ktorej sa zistilo zvýšenie amoniaku v krvnom sére je 0,75g/kg hmotnosti, alebo približne 57 g u 70 kg človeka. Optimálna dávka na zväčšenie svalovej hmoty, nie je známa, pretože glutamín má na tento účel relatívne nízku účinnosť. Uvedené
odporúčané dávky sú dostatočné pre zachovanie zdravia čriev a pre zmiernenie rizika možného nedostatku glutamínu v prípadoch nízkeho príjmu proteínov alebo vegánskeho stravovania.
