Beta-alanín (β-alanín) je stavebným kameňom pre karnozín – molekulu, ktorá pufruje kyselinu vo svaloch a zvyšuje fyzickú výkonnosť v rozsahu 60-240 sekúnd. Beta-alanín môže napomáhať nárastu svalovej hmoty. Karnozín sa javí ako antioxidant a zlúčenina, ktorá spomaľuje starnutie.
Užívanie
Štandardná denná dávka je 2-5 g. Hoci je beta-alanín obľúbenou zložkou predtréningovej suplementácie,
v skutočnosti nie je jeho účinnosť závislá od načasovania. Vysoké dávky beta-alanínu môžu vyvolať pocit brnenia (parestéziu). Tomuto neškodnému vedľajšiemu efektu sa dá vyhnúť užívaním beta-alanínu vo forme tabliet s postupným uvoľňovaním alebo užitím menších dávok (0,8-1g) viackrát za deň.
